IN LOVING MEMORY OF
KAJUL CHAUDHARY
NOVEMBER 5TH, 1996 – NOVEMBER 29TH, 2009

At 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, November 29th, Kajul slipped free the bonds of this earthly life. Her passing was without pain or distress; she went as quietly and patiently as she lived. Kajul died at the children’s hospital of complications attributed to a congenital heart disorder with Gita, one of our very loving care givers, at her side. She will be dearly missed by the children and staff of Papa’s Houses, but in memory lives on forever in our family.

The staff and board members of Nepal Orphans Home take comfort in the providential act that allowed Kajul to live her final year in the profusely joyful and loving environment of Papa’s House; freed from indentured servitude, she relished being a child — playing, drawing, knitting, and studying with zest. Though a quiet girl, she found humor in the ordinary and quirky both, and chuckled at her own moments of awkwardness. The above photo was taken two months ago; Kajul is wearing a new Kurta Sulwar made to celebrate Dashain. After putting it on she danced on her toes like an enchanted ballerina, the shawl floating in the breeze by outstretched arms. She felt like a storybook princess.

Every life has meaning and purpose, and in asking some of our children what they learned from Kajul I have found they clearly spotted the gift of her being. I leave you with a few photos to help you to have a feel for this very sweet young girl who left us much too early.
